Dear Polk County Public Schools,
Our students, employees and parents are understandably concerned about the spread of coronavirus and its potential impact to Polk County.
PCPS staff members are working closely with the Florida Department of Health to monitor and respond to this illness. Right now, there are no known cases in Polk County, and our focus is on prevention.
Mrs. Byrd reminds us all of simple hygiene habits to help prevent respiratory illnesses, including flu and coronavirus, in a video address available here: https://youtu.be/JHQoPYXzluY .
Please take the time to watch this video, practice good hygiene, and encourage good hygiene among your students and staff members.
PCPS is also taking necessary steps beyond promoting personal prevention measures. These include:
- Assessing all school bathrooms to ensure they are properly stocked with hand soap.
- Securing hand sanitizer that will be available in high-traffic areas of our schools, such as cafeterias, front offices and gyms. Hand sanitizer will also be available at district office locations.
- Providing hand sanitizer to bus drivers. Students will be asked to use hand sanitizer as they board their bus.
- Providing signage to schools that reminds students, employees, and visitors of steps they can take to prevent coronavirus.
We know that in situations like these, our community needs as much information as possible. That’s why we’ve created polkschoolsfl.com/healthinformation. Staff members are preparing materials, including an FAQ that will address questions we’ve received from parents, as well resources from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Please check this webpage frequently for the latest information, and direct parents and other stakeholders to use it to stay up to date.
The health and safety of our students and employees is always our first priority. Thank you for all you do for PCPS.
